Job summary

Nucor Rebar Fabrication is seeking a Yard Operator for our Canadian facility in Fort Saskatchewan. The role supports production, shipping and receiving by safely handling materials and organizing the yard.

You will operate forklifts and shunt trucks to move materials, unload/load trailers, and ensure accurate staging for shipments. A keen eye for detail and teamwork are essential in this outdoor, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating forklifts and shunt trucks in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial yard environment.
• Strong understanding of yard organization and material handling best practices.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate conduct consistent with Nucor Rebar Fabrication’s vision and values.
• Safely operate forklifts and shunt trucks to move materials within the yard
• Unload and load trailers, ensuring customer orders are accurately staged and prepared for shipment
• Receive, stage, and organize reinforcing steel bars to support production and shipping operations
• Organize and maintain the cleanliness of the yard, ensuring dunnage and other materials are picked up and disposed of properly
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of all shipping and receiving documentation
• Effectively communicate with the shipping and receiving departments to coordinate orders and resolve any discrepancies in a timely manner
• Assist with general yard operations by organizing materials, preparing shipments, and supporting production activities as required
• Perform other duties as required by the Supervisor

Purpose: The Yard Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient handling of materials to support production, shipping, and receiving operations. • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with team members and other departments
• Experience in the steel industry is considered an asset
• Forklift certification is considered an asset
• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to maintain a safe and work environment

Special Demands

• Overtime hours may be required
• Must be able to work any shift
• Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Must be familiar with, and adhere to, shop safety policies and procedures

Physical Demands

• Frequent heavy lifting is required
• Working conditions can be noisy/dusty/hot/cold
