Job summary

Savanna is seeking a proactive Shop/Yard Coordinator to manage day-to-day shop and yard operations supporting drilling activities. You will organize inventory, schedule maintenance, and coordinate shipping/receiving while ensuring a safe, efficient work environment.

Responsibilities include equipment preparation, staging for repairs, and supervising third-party trades. A strong emphasis on safety, record-keeping, and independent teamwork is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License (clean driver's abstract).
  • Current WHMIS certification.
  • Current TDG certification.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience in drilling, oilfield, construction, heavy equipment, or industrial operations is a strong asset.
  • Experience with inventory control, purchasing, or shop coordination is preferred.

  • Coordinate storage and movement of drill pipe, casing, tooling, consumables, and equipment.
  • Prepare equipment, materials, and supplies for drilling crews and field operations.
  • Assist with loading/unloading trucks using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Support rig mobilizations/demobilizations as needed.
  • Coordinate equipment staging for repairs, inspections, and field deployment.
  • Equipment & Asset Management: maintain records, maintenance schedules, and repairs.
  • Coordinate shipping/receiving activities and verify shipments.
  • Monitor vendor pricing and seek cost-saving opportunities.
  • Safety & Compliance: promote safety culture; ensure work adheres to policies and legislation.
  • Administrative Support: maintain inventory and maintenance records; assist operations with reporting.
  • May require overtime/weekend work to support operations.

Job description

The Shop/Yard Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day organization, maintenance, and operation of the company's shop and yard facilities. This role supports drilling operations by coordinating equipment, materials, inventory, purchasing, shipping and receiving, and preventative maintenance of mobile equipment and vehicles, while ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.

Supervision Received:

The Shop/Yard Coordinator reports to the Maintenance Manager, and other senior management as directed.

Supervision Exercised:

The Shop/Yard Coordinator provides functional supervision of third-party trades and employees on modified or light duty.

Summary of Duties (Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following):
Yard & Shop Operations
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and efficient shop and yard at all times.
  • Coordinate the storage, organization, and movement of drill pipe, casing, tooling, consumables, and equipment.
  • Prepare equipment, materials, and supplies for drilling crews and field operations.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Support rig mobilizations and demobilizations as required.
  • Coordinate equipment staging for repairs, inspections, and field deployment.
Equipment & Asset Management
  • Maintain accurate records of company equipment, tools, and assets.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules and maintain maintenance records.
  • Track equipment repairs and obtain quotes for repairs and fabrication services.
  • Ensure safety equipment (SCBAs, fire extinguishers, gas monitors, first aid supplies, etc.) is inspected, certified, serviced, and available for field operations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of shop equipment, powered mobile equipment, and company vehicles.
  • Manage shop inventory levels and maintain inventory records.
  • Generate purchase orders for shop materials, parts, consumables, and supplies.
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving activities, including verification of incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Track purchase orders and ensure timely receipt of ordered materials.
  • Monitor vendor pricing and recommend cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Coordinate deliveries and pickups using company vehicles.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company policies, safe work procedures, and applicable legislation.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and equipment deficiencies promptly.
Administrative Support
  • Maintain accurate records for inventory, maintenance, purchasing, and equipment.
  • Assist Operations with reporting and documentation as required.
  • Support transportation of equipment when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience operating forklifts, skid steers (Kubota or equivalent), and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate power tools and shop equipment.
  • Ability to lift, move, and handle heavy materials using proper equipment and safe lifting practices.
  • Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
  • Working knowledge of shipping, receiving, purchasing, and warehouse operations.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify maintenance needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and inventory management software.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment.
  • Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Occasional travel to field locations and support during rig mobilizations.
  • May require overtime or weekend work to support operational requirements.
