Magnum Cementing Services Ltd. is seeking an Equipment Operator to operate and maintain a variety of heavy equipment in base work, road, and pad construction. You will follow safety protocols, perform routine inspections, and assist with loading and unloading at the job site.
This safety-sensitive role requires outdoor work in all weather, a Class 5 licence, and willingness to travel up to two weeks. The schedule is 15 days on, 6 days off, with opportunities to advance to Operator 2 or 3 with
Reporting to the Magnum Infrastructure Operations Manager and under the direction of the MI Supervisor, the Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of equipment, performing shop maintenance and supporting the infrastructure business. This position will also be expected to support other service lines in the off season. This position is considered to be a safety-sensitive position.
The Equipment Operator role encompasses three levels of seniority based on skillset and experience. Specific definitions on the levels are as follows:
Basic operation of equipment: Fundamental operation of vehicles requiring a standard driver's license (Class 5); Basic compaction techniques using rollers and compactors; Skidsteer operation for material handling; Rubber‑tire tractor operation; Basic understanding of construction site safety; CRi Driver skills; Emphasis on learning and gaining experience with standard equipment; Supervised work and following established procedures; Entry point for individuals with limited experience.
Increased complexity and specialization in equipment operation: Operation of more specialized equipment like Wirtgen WR Series (basic), steel breakdown rollers, and dozers (basic); Application spreader operation (off‑highway); Screed operation, critical for asphalt paving; Finish steel roller operation (asphalt); Increased understanding of material properties, and compaction procedures; Requires a higher level of precision and control; More independent work and decision‑making; Understanding of specific construction processes (e.g., asphalt paving).
Highly specialized equipment operation and advanced skills: Operation of advanced equipment like CRi 380, pavers, and finish‑grade dozers and graders; Advanced application spreader operation; Wirtgen WR Series operation (foaming), requiring specialized knowledge; Expertise in achieving precise grades and finishes; Advanced understanding of material properties, and how different materials react to different compaction techniques; Requires a high level of expertise and experience; Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex problems; Training and mentoring other operators; Critical role in ensuring project quality and efficiency; Specialized knowledge of advanced equipment functions.
