Job summary

Joe Johnson Equipment in Edmonton is seeking a Yard Coordinator to oversee the movement and management of equipment in our yard. You will receive and inspect units, coordinate movement to support shop operations, and prepare trucks for handover to technicians.

The role requires 2+ years in a similar yard role, safe operation of company vehicles, and strong communication. You will help with yard maintenance, loading/unloading, and seasonal tasks while maintaining safety and efficiency.

  • 2+ years’ experience in a Yard Coordinator role or related position.
  • Ability to safely operate Company vehicles and heavy equipment.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Job description

We are looking for a reliable, organized, and safety-conscious Yard Coordinator to oversee the efficient movement and management of equipment within our Edmonton yard. In this hands‑on role, you will receive and inspect incoming units, coordinate equipment movement to support shop operations, prepare trucks for technician handover, and shuttle equipment to and from vendors. You will also assist with yard maintenance, equipment loading and unloading, seasonal upkeep, and the storage of rental equipment. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, proactive, and committed to maintaining a safe, organized, and productive work environment while supporting technicians and ensuring excellent operational efficiency.

What You’ll Do
  • Serve as the main point of contact by receiving all incoming units in the yard.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of units in accordance with established check‑in procedures.

  • Park units and relocate them into the shop as required to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Ensure that trucks are properly prepared and ready for handovers to technicians.
  • Shuttle units to and from vendors as needed.
  • Assist with cleaning equipment and maintaining the yard to ensure a safe and organized work environment.
  • Ensure customer and rental units are checked in and out of the yard promptly and efficiently.
  • Assist technicians with various tasks as requested. Perform start‑up procedures for equipment, ensuring that all systems are functioning correctly before use.
  • Oversee the maintenance of yard equipment, including regular checks and servicing.
  • Manage seasonal tasks such as plowing, salting, and sanding the yard to ensure safety and accessibility.
  • Oversee the loading and unloading of equipment, ensuring that all items are handled safely and efficiently.
  • Manage the storage of rental equipment during non‑active cycles, ensuring that items are stored safely and are easily accessible when needed.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably assigned

What You Bring
  • 2+ years’ experience in a Yard Coordinator role or a related position
  • Ability to safely operate Company vehicles and heavy equipment or trucks in support of yard operations
  • Mechanical aptitude or previous exposure to a heavy equipment work environment is an asset
  • Ability to use computers including MS Office
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to work effectively within a team environment
Additional Requirements
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract
  • Class 3 license with Air Brake endorsement considered an asset
  • Forklift license considered an asset
  • Combination of warehouse and yard environment
  • Regular exposure to noise, dust, and shop activity
  • Regular exposure to the varying outdoor weather conditions throughout the year
