Job summary

Joe Johnson Equipment, a subsidiary of Federal Signal Corporation, seeks a Material Handler in Edmonton, Alberta. You will load and unload delivery trucks, manage inventory, and ensure the smooth operation of the Parts Department.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a related shipping/receiving position.
  • Valid forklift/counterbalance certification and ability to maintain certification.
  • Works well independently and willingness to assist others as required.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload delivery trucks.
  • Receive, locate, and stock material.
  • Track production back-order parts list.
  • Manage location changes and labeling.
  • Assist in daily inventory reporting and cycle counts.
  • Deliver material to required areas within the production facility.
  • Check materials and supplies and report low stock.
  • Report damages and discrepancies for record-keeping.
  • Ensure incoming material is received in a timely manner.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Mark purchase order numbers on required material.
  • Move and issue Kanban parts to the production team.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient working area.
  • Provide backup for Supervisor when necessary.
  • May work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About the Role

We are seeking a hands‑on and engaged Material Handler. This individual supports the daily operations of the manufacturing Parts Department and is solely focused on receiving and distributing production materials in a safe, timely, and accurate manner.

What You’ll Do
  • Load and unload delivery trucks
  • Receive, locate, and stock material
  • Track production back‑order parts list
  • Manage location changes and labeling
  • Assist in daily inventory reporting and cycle counts
  • Deliver material to required areas within the production facility
  • Check materials and supplies and report when stock is low
  • Report damages and discrepancies for accounting, reimbursement, and record‑keeping purposes
  • Ensure incoming material is received in a timely manner, including entering receipts and investigating packing slip discrepancies
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Mark purchase order numbers on required material
  • Move and issue Kanban parts to the production team
  • Ensure all MTRs are accurate and delivered to the Engineering Lead
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and efficient working area
  • Provide backup for Supervisor when necessary
  • May be required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Hourly rate range: $23.00 to $27.00 annually

Position Details

Location: Edmonton, Alberta

Status: Permanent, Full‑time

Position type: Hourly – non‑exempt. Overtime will be paid in accordance with applicable Alberta employment standards legislation and company policy.

Schedule: Monday–Friday – occasional extended hours may be required based on operational needs.

What You Bring
  • Experience in a related shipping/receiving position
  • Valid forklift/counterbalance certification and ability to maintain certification
  • Proficient in Windows and Outlook systems
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment parts is considered an asset
  • Works well independently and willing to assist others whenever required
Additional Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Perform repetitive bending, lifting, reaching, and carrying
  • Operate material handling equipment safely
