Job summary

Canadian Red Cross is hiring for an Interim Housing Site Maintenance Worker in Jasper, AB. This in-person role supports emergency housing facilities, performing maintenance, cleaning, and safety tasks.

You will inspect residences, handle routine repairs, coordinate with vendors, and ensure compliant operations while delivering friendly resident service. The position is temporary full-time with end date March 31, 2027, requiring a valid driver’s license and safety training.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and maintain safe, clean, and well-working residence per standards.

  • Troubleshoot minor repairs (electrical, HVAC, plumbing) within certification/expertise.

  • Provide professional service to residents and respond to inquiries.

Title : Worker - Interim Housing Site Maintenance

In this role, you will:
  • Inspect and maintain safe, clean, and well working residence according to established standards
  • Identify, document, prioritize and track maintenance activities.
  • Perform a variety of property maintenance tasks including janitorial and ground maintenance
  • Troubleshoot issues and carry out minor repairs (e.g., electrical, HVAC, plumbing, septic, carpentry) (depending on personal expertise and certification).
  • Activate, monitor, and report on work completed by third party-vendors.
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as bobcats and snow blowers.
  • Provide professional and friendly service to residents and respond to their inquiries.
  • Complete small jobs on behalf of residents based on established processes (i.e. boosting vehicles)
  • Providing guidance on technical and procedural matters to new and existing workers, while monitoring and reporting on progress and work quality.
  • Provides back-up to colleagues as required.
What we are looking for:
  • Qualifications include a minimum of 1-2 years experience and a 1-2 year college diploma or post-secondary certification and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to work in compliance with relevant occupational health and safety standards, and willingness to participate and upgrade training certifications including general safety and relevant courses
  • Certification in one or more of the following would be an asset: electrical, HVAC, plumbing, septic, and/or carpentry
  • Experience in maintenance and repairs, janitorial services and procedures, grounds maintenance.
  • Experience working with third party vendors (i.e. septic tank desludging, water tank, fuel tank replenishment, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of equipment repair and experience with hand tools.
  • Experience in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to apply standard methods, and select amongst options to resolve routine problems.
  • Communication skills to explain policies, exchange information, resolve issues, and achieve client satisfaction.
  • Ability to work independently in a result oriented multi-tasking environment and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.
  • Valid First Aid Certification, or willingness to take training.
  • Fluency in English is required,
Working Conditions:
  • This position will be required to work non-traditional hours, be on-call, carry a cell phone, and respond to emergency/disaster related requests.
  • Work will predominately be performed on-site,
  • Frequent travel between interim housing sites.
  • Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting throughout shift. Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps.
  • Must be able to carry and lift loads of up to 22kg (50lbs) on a regular basis.
  • All CRC roles are required to adapt work and priorities to support emergency response efforts, be present in person as required to support service delivery and deploy to emergency responses when appropriate and/or required (personnel availability and request for exceptions will be discussed with line management).
