Job summary

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, HR, Marketing or related field with 3–5 years’ client-based experience.
  • Certificate or degree in Adult Education, Counselling or Career Counselling.
  • Experience developing educational programming, training, workshops or student development initiatives.
  • Ability to build relationships with students, faculty, employers and partners.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, problem solving, conflict resolution and business writing skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities independently and use online learning platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance, advising and support to Co-op and WIL students to help secure employment opportunities and meet academic requirements.
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate WIL curriculum, career education and professional development programs.
  • Monitor student progress and connect to campus resources as needed.
  • Build collaborative relationships with students, employers, faculty and partners.
  • Support development and implementation of WIL policies and program requirements.

Job Summary

The Work’Integrated Learning & Co’operative Education office at Dalhousie University is responsible for securing and managing high-quality work term opportunities for 2,000+ students annually in 27 Co-op and Work-Integrated Learning ( WIL )programs across five faculties and a college. Reporting to the Student Development Manager, the Work-Integrated Learning ( WIL ) Advisor delivers comprehensive advising, resources, and support to WIL Co-op students. Through a holistic, accessible, and appreciative advising approach, the Advisor supports students in developing workplace readiness competencies, securing employment, and succeeding in their work-integrated learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance, advising, coaching, and support to Co-op and Work-Integrated Learning ( WIL ) students to help them secure employment opportunities, achieve academic requirements, and maximize the value of their work-term experiences.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate work-integrated Learning curriculum, career education, and professional development programming that prepares students for workplace success.
  • Monitor student progress throughout the Work-integrated Learning experience, provide individualized support, and connect students with appropriate campus resources when required.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with students, employers, faculty, and university partners to support program delivery, stakeholder engagement, and successful work-term outcomes.
  • Support the development, implementation, communication, and consistent application of WIL Co-op policies, procedures, and program requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Work-Integrated Learning programs and services through stakeholder feedback, program evaluation, and alignment with strategic priorities and emerging industry trends.
Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Human Resources, Marketing, Adult Education or other relevant field, plus approximately three to five years’ relevant experience or more in a comparable client-based setting (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • A certificate or degree in Adult Education, Counselling, or Career Counselling.
  • Experience developing and delivering educational programming, training, workshops, or student/client development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, employers, and community partners.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and business writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and effectively utilize technology and online learning platforms to support service delivery.
Assets
  • Experience in work-integrated learning (such as co-op) and career education.
  • Experience within a university or other post-secondary environment.
  • Knowledge of labour market trends, recruitment practices, personal branding, and employer engagement strategies.
  • Experience with curriculum development, learning management systems, and accessibility-focused program design.
  • Understanding and experience utilizing Appreciative Advising practices.
