Job summary

Fairleigh Dickinson University seeks a Work Integrated Learning Program Coordinator to cultivate industry partnerships, coordinate practicum placements, and manage work-integrated learning opportunities for students and programs.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred in business, career development, counseling, experiential learning, adult education, management, communication, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of related work experience in work-integrated learning or co-op coordination, recruitment, human resources, or business development.
  • Previous experience in providing career advising or counselling services to post-secondary students preferred.
  • Ability to liaise with industry partners to develop and maintain relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiastic, proactive, and motivated in managing partner relationships.
  • Ability to be thorough, accurate, and have a high level of attention to detail.
  • Superior communications skills. Ease at public speaking.
  • Fluency in a second language and experience with international students/employers an asset.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Provide employment coaching and overall guidance to students towards developing realistic goals and internship search plan based on their program of study.
  • Design, develop, and facilitate comprehensive job search workshops and training sessions on all aspects of work-integrated learning goals and career development.
  • Assist students with job application preparation, job search strategies and interview preparation through one-on-one appointments.
  • Provide relevant and accurate information regarding the internship process and requirements.
  • Monitor and provide ongoing support during and after completion of the internship program.
  • Addresses workplace safety, conduct, or performance concerns during placements, escalating to the Manager as needed.
  • Manage, liaise with, and grow a base of internship employers by researching and developing internship opportunities based on the needs of student interns and their programs of study.
  • Liaise with corporations, government agencies, and employment service providers for internship placements.
  • Assist employers with onboarding student interns.
  • Conduct internship site visits to evaluate student performance in the workplace and help resolve performance issues.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to identify work-integrated learning opportunities that align with program objectives and student learning outcomes.
  • Work closely with faculty to integrate work-integrated learning components into the curriculum at the course or program level.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Tracks placement, eligibility, and completion data for all work-integrated learning activities and maintain accurate internship records.
  • Verifies student eligibility for WIL placements in collaboration with the International Student Advisor and academic departments.
  • Prepares reports on WIL participation, outcomes, and employer engagement for internal review and any external reporting requirements.

Job Summary
General Description

The Work Integrated Learning Program Coordinator will identify, establish, and maintain relationships with industry partners, and collaborate with faculty members to facilitate and coordinate practicum placements and other work-integrated learning opportunities that align with student and program goals. By providing overall administrative support in accordance with FDU policies and protocols, the Work Integrated Learning Program Coordinator will conduct tasks such as guiding employers to facilitate meaningful student work experiences and successful placements, recruiting students for the work-integrated learning program, designing and delivering internship orientation and pre-employment training (in-person and online), advising students to prepare for internship search, monitoring student work terms, visiting practicum sites and addressing any workplace issues that students encounter, and marketing the program to employers.

Supervision Received

The Work Integrated Learning Program Coordinator reports to the Manager of Career Services and receives supervision concerning objectives to be achieved. The incumbent is expected to work independently and collaboratively on daily tasks and special projects, as well as collaborate with other key internal and external constituent groups.

Student Advising
