Job summary

The City of Fernie is seeking a Public Works Maintenance I for full-time, temporary, seasonal winter duties in the Public Works Department. The role involves road, sidewalk, utilities and drainage maintenance with shift work.

Experience in heavy equipment operation, safety training, and a valid Class 3 driver’s license with airbrakes are required. The position is unionized under CUPE Local 2093 and pays $41.87/hour.

Qualifications

• Requires valid Class 3 Driver’s License with airbrakes or equivalent with 5 years driving experience.
• Municipal experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills with ability to use smartphones and tablets.

Responsibilities

• Perform pothole patching, sweeping, waste pickup, landscaping, sidewalk maintenance and watercourse cleaning.
• Operate hand tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
• Conduct snow and ice control in accordance with policy.
• Operate light and some heavy public works equipment.
• Complete daily inspections and routine maintenance on city equipment.
• Accurately complete paperwork and data entry.
