Job summary

ATCO is seeking an Operations Technician to manage work priorities and oversee preventative maintenance at the Forty Mile Wind facility near Medicine Hat, AB, with coverage for the Empress Solar project. You will inspect wind turbines, solar assets, and substations, maintain MAXIMO records, direct technicians, and develop site-specific electrical procedures while ensuring safety.

This role involves on-call standby, periodic travel to support other ATCO sites, and collaboration across Operations,

Qualifications

• Electrical Technology Diploma, Electrician, Power Systems Electrician or Instrumentation and Control Technician certifications.
• Wind Energy and/or Solar Industry and/or Substation operation experience preferred.
• 5 to 7 years of related experience.
• Must have a valid Alberta operator’s license (minimum class 5).
• Completion of all required training modules and on-the-job training as identified in department progression standards.
• Advanced knowledge of current on-site electrical equipment and associated systems.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular inspections of facility equipment and assets (wind turbines, solar systems, substations) and report findings.
• Maintain inspection records and ensure MAXIMO and part inventories are current.
• Direct multi-disciplined technicians in preventive maintenance, repairs and upgrades.
• Assist with troubleshooting to improve plant efficiency, safety, and operations.
• Develop site-specific procedures for electrical equipment.
• Install and maintain high-voltage devices with safe switching and isolation.
• Prepare and implement site-specific preventive maintenance programs.
• Manage facility electrical drawings and support O&M and capital projects.
• Participate in audits and support MOC process.
• Monitor Electrical Safety Codes and advise on changes.
• Help maintain maintenance budgets and develop 3-year plans.
