Job summary

The YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka is seeking a Wellness Coach & Personal Trainer to join our Gravenhurst team. Deliver safe, values-based programming while engaging members and participants in group and individual fitness activities.

You will support the mission, uphold YMCA standards, and coordinate with leadership on training and safety. Compensation includes YMCA Health and Fitness membership and wellness days.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in related field preferred.
• YMCA certifications preferred (CESP-CPT or CanFitPro-PTS).
• Experience teaching fitness classes or interest in learning.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Computer literate and able to manage systems.
• Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification.
• Must be able to work flexible hours based on client needs.
• Willingness to participate in mandated trainings (AODA, Health & Safety, Bill 168, PCI, WHMIS, Child Safeguarding).

Responsibilities

• Deliver fitness programs (group and individual) and maintain records.
• Maintain safety and security of members and participants at all times.

Job Description

The opportunity:
Join our team at the Gravenhurst YMCA of Simcoe Muskoka. The Wellness Coach & Personal Trainer is responsible for ensuring a safe environment and delivering quality, values based programming and services.

In this role, you will:

• Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada.
• Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, facility users and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
• Adhere to all provincial and federal legislation relevant to job description.
• Build and maintain relationships with members and participants through deliberate dialogue and interaction.
• Be visible and approachable while on duty in program and service delivery. Maintain a strong presence and e ngage in on-floor health education, fitness leadership and individual coaching.
• Communicate all deficiencies and problems to the Supervisor, Adult Fitness for coordinated resolution.
• Stay informed ensuring that all necessary changes, updates and general information is communicated effectively to members.
• Plan, organize and deliver fitness programs and services (group and individual). Maintain records as needed including program area maintenance items and daily checklists.
• Deliver service friendly, fitness programming. Monitor and maintain high quality instruction and customer service, adhering to YMCA Y Way Standards and b est practices.
• Monitor and maintain a high level of ongoing member participation in the programs you are responsible for.
• To be responsible for the safety and security of YMCA members and participants at all times.
• Complete incident report forms for emergency and first aid situations.
• To assist as the Duty Manager in the event of an emergency or building evacuation.
• To provide excellence in member service, adhering to YMCA SAM Standards.
• Respond to members concerns in a helpful and positive manner.
• Support and work as part of a staff/volunteer team to ensure that all members’ YMCA experience is a positive one.
• Ensure the uninterrupted delivery of membership programs and services.
• Actively work towards maintaining a neat, clean, safe and well organized area at all times.

You bring:

• Degree or Diploma in Related Field Preferred
• YMCA Individual Conditioning II or other recognized Personal Training and Group Fitness Certifications (preferred) i.e. CESP-CPT or CanFitPro-PTS
• Experience teaching fitness classes or interest in learning to teach them preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Computer Literate/Systems Management
• Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification
• Must be able to work flexible hours based on client needs
• Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after commencement of work including:
  • AODA Training
  • Health & Safety Awareness Training
  • Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) Training
  • PCI Compliance
  • WHMIS
  • Child Safeguarding Training
