Job summary

Avon Maitland District School Board seeks a Health and Wellness Officer (Temporary) to support employee well-being and attendance. The role manages disability and WSIB claims, return-to-work plans, and attendance support across the Board, working with the HRS team and staff to promote wellness.

They will handle confidential information, collaborate with managers and unions, and implement wellness initiatives in a unionized public sector environment.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Health Care, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a unionized public sector environment.
• Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., WSIA, Human Rights Code, ESA).
• Proven experience in attendance support, disability management, and accommodations.
• Familiarity with relevant collective agreements and Board policies.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and case management for short-term disability, long-term disability, and WSIB claims.
• Coordinate and support safe, timely return-to-work and workplace accommodation plans.
• Monitor and analyze employee attendance trends, communicate expectations per the Attendance Support Program, and prepare related documentation including summaries and recommendations.
• Utilize HR systems and technology tools to generate and analyze attendance-related statistical reports.
• Organize, facilitate, and chair employee meetings as part of the disability management process and Attendance Support Program.
• Advise managers, principals, and supervisors on accurate leave coding in accordance with collective agreements.
• Ensure confidentiality and compliance with data protection policies and procedures.
• Support the implementation of wellness initiatives, including internal communications and research activities.
• Contribute to HR-led projects and initiatives as assigned.
• Perform other related duties that support the overall function of the role.
