Welding Specialist

Hourly rate: $43.31 – Fully Qualified (starts at Learner 1: $36.81/hr; Learner 2: $38.97/hr; Learner 3: $41.14)

Progression is based on merit, not hours.

We have opportunities for RT/UT Welder Fitters to join our production team at our facility in CAMBRIDGE, ON. Each team member plays a critical role in BWXT Canada's success and in ensuring we meet our customers’ quality, cost, and delivery expectations. Our RT/UT Welder Fitters are recognized as industry leaders, demonstrating a high level of technical skill daily.

Primary Function

To perform all types of manual welding in all positions on weldable materials to meet radiographic and ultrasonic inspection standards. The role may also involve leading and instructing welders/operators on new or revised welding applications.

Tools and Equipment

Includes various manual or semi-automatic welding power sources, cutting equipment, cleaning tools, safety gear, fixtures, NDE materials, gauges, and other specialized tools for welding and repair tasks, along with defect tracing and reporting tools.

Tasks
  • Read and interpret route sheets, drawings, shop instructions, WPS, weld and rod cards; plan and organize welding processes; verify workpiece materials; communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Repair welds on drums and pressure vessels by removing defects per NDE reports and re-welding according to WPS parameters.
  • Perform welding and repairs with high precision, often in confined or difficult-to-access areas, such as seal welds, primary head corners, and cladding.
  • Prepare surfaces to NDE standards, utilizing special tools, gauges, fixtures, and reports.
  • Perform manual welding adhering to quality standards across multiple processes.
  • Fit components into position for welding, including butt joints and nozzles.
  • Clean and prepare surfaces, set up equipment, and construct fixtures as needed.
  • Apply knowledge of metals, filler metals, and welding parameters, considering effects like warpage and expansion.
  • Work safely, demonstrating good workmanship and practices.
  • Assist as a Utility or General Helper when required.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in all manual welding processes.
  • Successful completion of a three-person panel interview, including reference checks and review of employee records.
  • Ability to train other employees is an asset.
  • Availability to work any of the following shifts:
    • Days: 6:00 am to 4:00 pm (Mon–Thurs)
    • Afternoons: 4:00 pm to 2:00 am (Mon–Thurs)
    • Weekend days: 6:00 am to 5:00 pm (Fri–Sun; paid for 40 hours)
