Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, fit, and repair drilling rig components per engineering drawings and quality standards
  • Perform basic welding using GMAW, FCAW, and MCAW in shop
  • Apply foundational knowledge of welding techniques, metal properties, and trade math to support fabrication tasks
  • Follow proper lifting, rigging, and hoisting practices in accordance with safety standards
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment while supporting general shop operations and team activities

The Apprentice, Welder supports Journeyman Welders in fabricating, manufacturing, and repairing drilling rig components while gaining hands ‑ on experience in the trade. This role focuses on developing foundational welding skills by working on basic projects and building technical knowledge in a shop environment.

DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Fabricate, fit, and repair drilling rig components and equipment according to engineering drawings and quality standards
  • Perform basic welding using GMAW, FCAW, and MCAW processes with manual and semi-automatic equipment
  • Apply foundational knowledge of welding techniques, metal properties, and trade math to support fabrication tasks
  • Follow proper lifting, rigging, and hoisting practices in accordance with safety standards
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment while supporting general shop operations and team activities

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

  • High school diploma or GED required; completion of the first period of vocational welding training or equivalent apprenticeship in progress
  • Minimum 1+ year of shop or manufacturing experience preferred, with progress toward required on-the-jobtraining hours
  • Ability to read structural blueprints and welding symbols is an asset
  • Strong commitment to safety, with working knowledge of OHS regulations, WHMIS, and proper PPE use
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivatedteam player with good communication skills and a basic understanding of hand and power tools
