Job summary

Rostel Industries is seeking a Welder, Journeyman to fabricate, fit and repair drilling rig components on-site. The role requires reading blueprints, performing multi-process welding, and mentoring apprentices while maintaining safety and quality in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate holds a Red Seal Journeyman Welder certificate with 3–5+ years of fabrication experience and familiarity with API, CWB, ASME, and CSA codes. A strong safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Journeyman Welder with completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship or equivalent trade experience.
• 54 months / 7,020 hours on site on welding related work.
• 3–5+ years of fabrication experience with FCAW, SMAW, GMAW; B Pressure Ticket considered an asset.
• Proven ability to read and interpret structural blueprints, welding symbols, and work to API, CWB, ASME, CSA codes.
• Strong commitment to safety including knowledge of OHS regulations, WHMIS, PPE and maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints and welding specifications; fabricate, fit, and repair drilling rig components to high-quality standards
• Perform structural welding and metal fabrication using GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, MCAW, and related equipment
• Safely operate welding, hoisting, rigging, and lifting equipment per site safety requirements
• Support project execution through accurate workmanship, participate in project estimating, and maintain shop cleanliness and organization
• Mentor apprentices and maintain a positive, professional attitude

The Welder, Journeyman at Rostel is the subject‑matter expert responsible for fabricating, fitting, and repairing drilling rig components while mentoring apprentices through their training.

Day In The Life

• Read and interpret blueprints and welding specifications; fabricate, fit, and repair drilling rig components to high-quality standards
• Perform structural welding and metal fabrication using multiple processes (GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, MCAW), as well as cutting, brazing, and metal‑shaping equipment
• Safely operate welding, hoisting, rigging, and lifting equipment in accordance with industry and site safety requirements
• Support efficient project execution through accurate workmanship, participation in project estimating, and maintaining shop cleanliness and organization
• Work safely and collaboratively while producing defect‑free work, mentoring apprentices as needed, and maintaining a positive, communicative, and professional attitude

What We Need From You

• Red Seal Journeyman Welder with completion of a recognized welding apprenticeship or equivalent trade experience; minimum 54 months / 7,020 hours on site
• 3–5+ years of fabrication experience, with strong capability in FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, fitting, and all‑position welding; B Pressure Ticket considered an asset
• Proven ability to read and interpret structural blueprints, welding symbols, and work to industry codes (API, CWB, ASME, CSA)
• Strong commitment to safety, including knowledge of OHS regulations, WHMIS, PPE, and maintaining a safe work environment
• Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated team player with strong communication skills and willingness to mentor apprentices in a service‑oriented setting
