Job summary

Canadian Kraft Paper Industries Ltd. in The Pas, Manitoba is seeking a skilled Welder to join our maintenance team. The role involves repairing piping, tanks and equipment, and fabricating pressure piping per QA/QC standards.

You will use SMAW and GTAW techniques on carbon steel, chrome moly, stainless and aluminum, reading blueprints and working safely under union guidelines. The position is full-time, with a starting wage of $47.87 hourly under the Collective Agreement.

Qualifications

  • Valid Welder Journeyperson Trade Qualification or 4th year Apprentice.
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings.
  • Proven problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Holding (or having held previously) a Pressure Welder or CWB ticket is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair piping, storage tanks, equipment and structures in all areas of the site to ensure the mill operates efficiently, and that production and safety objectives are achieved.
  • Fabricate, repair, and install pressure piping in compliance with the QA/QC manual.
  • Utilize different welding techniques (SMAW, GTAW, etc.) on various materials (carbon, chrome moly, stainless steel, aluminum) for fabrication and repairs of process equipment and structures.
  • Comply with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other policies, procedures and requirements.
  • From instructions, prints and work orders, organize details of procedures, required materials and tools for the job.
  • Ensure work area is maintained in a clean and organized manner.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Overview

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the welder is accountable to:

  • Maintain and repair piping, storage tanks, equipment and structures in all areas of the site to ensure that the mill operates efficiently, and that production and safety objectives are achieved;
  • Fabricate, repair, and install pressure piping in compliance with the QA/QC manual;
  • Utilize different welding techniques (SMAW, GTAW, etc.) on various materials (carbon, chrome moly, stainless steel, aluminum) for fabrication and repairs of process equipment and structures;
  • Comply with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other policies, procedures and requirements;

Qualifications
  • Strong work ethic and proven safety record;
  • Valid Welder Journeyperson Trade Qualification/ 4th year Apprentice
  • Proven problem solving and trouble shooting skills;
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to assemble and repair equipment and follow work procedures & processes;
  • Ability to work independently and take initiatives;
  • Strong interpersonal skills; both verbal and written communication required;
  • Holding (or having held previously) a Pressure Welder or CWB ticket is an asset .

This is a unionized position. The starting wage is $47.87 hourly as per the Collective Agreement.
