Job summary

Universal Group in Ottawa, Ontario is seeking a Welder to join our Manufacturing Department. You will fabricate, assemble, and weld metal parts with attention to clean, polished welds, following drawings and specifications.

You will operate MIG, TIG, stick welders and related equipment, read blueprints, lift up to 100 lbs, and work Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm. Prior welding experience in fleet/garage environments is preferred. We offer growth opportunities and strong benefits.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; oil/gas/fleet experience is a plus.
  • Prior welding experience in fleet/garage environment preferred.
  • Able to read and interpret welding drawings and blueprints.
  • Able to repeatedly lift up to 100 lbs and stand for long periods.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates and manufactures metal parts based on requirements and specs.
  • Reads drawings and builds from sketches or media as assigned; ensures clean welds.

The Welder’s main responsibility is to construct and manufacture metal parts and products, taking particular care to produce clean, polished welds.

What you will be responsible for:
Fabrication & Manufacturing
  • Fabricates and manufactures metal parts for later assembly based on specific requirements and needs.
  • Lays out steel construction efficiently and with a high degree of accuracy before welding.
  • Measures, cuts, and bends steel components for construction.
Welding & Assembly
  • Produces strong, clean welds.
  • Reads, interprets, and builds from construction drawings as assigned by the Fleet Manager.
  • Interprets and builds from sketches, photos, video, or other media as assigned by the Fleet Manager.
Equipment Operation
  • Operates all of the following equipment: MIG welder, aluminum welder, stick, drill press, horizontal band saw, portable band saw, abrasive saw, angle grinder, roller bender, tap & die, TIG welder, and any other tools required to complete tasks.
What we need from you:
  • High School Diploma or GED (education in the field would be considered an asset)
  • G Class Driver’s License with a clean driver's abstract
  • Available to work full-time Monday - Friday from 7am - 3pm (Required)
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 100 lbs. with good overall physical stamina (Required)
  • Prior experience welding, preferably in a fleet/garage environment
  • Familiarity with common welding tools and procedures (metal fabricating, grinding, and finishing metals)
  • Ability to stand, crouch, and occasionally lift heavy equipment
  • Blueprint reading and knowledge of common welding symbols, if needed
  • Ability to identify steel grade
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Detail-oriented
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
