Job summary

McGill University’s Communications & Production unit seeks a part-time technician to support live performances. You will set up cameras and connection infrastructure, ensure communication links, and operate camera/recorder during operas, symphonies, and recitals.

Proficiency with Canon XF300/305/205/100, Sony EX3, and Manfrotto tripods is required. Knowledge of Mac systems and Unix file navigation is expected; English communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must have full knowledge of the concert halls (Redpath, Pollack, Tanna) and the associated audio and video equipment.
  • Must have completed MUPD-204 and/or MUPD205 or have equivalent knowledge base or approval of Sound Recording Area.
  • Requires working knowledge of Macintosh computers and navigational knowledge of MLAPS file systems (Unix navigation & commands).
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and with others under strict timelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English written and spoken.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the immediate supervisor:

  • Ensures cameras and connection infrastructure are properly set up and ready for live performance;
  • Ensures communication equipment between control room and camera operators is functioning properly;
  • Runs video camera/recorder for live performance of operas, symphony orchestras, and recitals;
  • Take active direction in English;
  • Carries and sets up Canon XF300/305/205/100 and Sony EX3, and set up custom menus for Canon XF705/305/205/100 and Sony A7SII;
  • Sets up Manfrotto professional tripods and Manfrotto 504 fluid heads;
  • Performs post‑production work as required.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Must have full knowledge of the concert halls (Redpath, Pollack, Tanna) and the associated audio and video equipment. Must demonstrate the ability to work independently. Ability to work with others (artists, faculty, external clients). Must be able to work under strict timelines. Ability to communicate effectively in English written and spoken.

Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (qualifier) on a scale of 0-4.

Minimum Education and Experience: High School Diploma 2 Years Related Experience

Hourly Salary: (AMUSE C) $18.00

Estimated Number of Work Hours per Week: 2 (Part time) Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Position Start Date: 2026-08-30

Position End Date: 2027-05-01
