Job summary

The City of North Bay is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Water Wastewater Division. You will operate excavators, loader/backhoe, and related machinery to perform water distribution and wastewater collection work in a safe, efficient manner.

Requirements include Grade 12, 3 years of heavy equipment experience, a valid Ontario Class D license with Z endorsement, and the ability to obtain MOE OIT and Level I credentials within three years.

Qualifications

• Must have Grade 12 Education or equivalent.
• Must have three (3) years’ experience in the operation of an excavator and other heavy equipment in water distribution/collection.
• Must be able to follow explicit directions.
• Must hold a valid Ontario Class “D” Driver’s License with a “Z” endorsement.
• Water Distribution and Wastewater Level 1 Certificate; or ability to obtain MOE Operator-in-training certificate and achieve Level I within three years.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment to complete water distribution and wastewater collection repairs.
• Read and understand utility locates and the OH&S Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.
• Direct personnel to ensure safety during excavations and compliance during operations.
