Summarized Position Responsibilities:
The position involves working collaboratively with Treatment Plant Operators to ensure the safe, effective, and continuous operation of the City’s water treatment facilities. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining plant systems such as raw water storage, chlorination, UV systems, and emergency power generators. The role requires regular monitoring and control through SCADA and HMI systems, responding to alarms, performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Daily laboratory analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation are essential, along with supporting chemical handling, system repairs, preventative maintenance, and confined space procedures. The position also supports the development of operational procedures, participates in after-hours coverage, assists with new team member onboarding, and liaises with contractors for system improvements. Maintaining EOCP certification and adhering to safety protocols are critical components of the role.
Our Ideal Candidate:
WATER SUPPLY & TREATMENT OPERATOR II
The ideal candidate holds an EOCP Level II certification in Water Treatment, with at least three years of experience operating a Class I or higher filtration plant. They possess hands-on knowledge of Dissolved Air Flotation, dual media rapid sand filtration, and various chemical treatment systems. Required safety certifications include Basic First Aid, Confined Space Entry, Chlorine Handling, WHMIS 2015, and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. Preferred qualifications include a Water Engineering Technology Diploma, certifications in Cross Connection Control, dam inspection training, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. The candidate should be capable of working safely in elevated and confined spaces, with practical experience in SCADA systems, PLCs, HMIs, GIS, and maintenance of water treatment infrastructure. They should have a solid understanding of water quality monitoring, strong communication skills, physical endurance for outdoor manual work, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively. Flexibility to work shifts, respond to emergencies, and interact professionally with the public is essential.
