FACILITIES OPERATOR II

Position Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain the ammonia refrigeration plant for a twin sheet arena
• Manage HVAC systems and conduct routine inspections and repairs
• Perform general ice maintenance including operating ice resurfacing equipment, edging, ice measurements, and installing/removing ice and related marks
• Implement preventative maintenance and handle minor construction and custodial tasks
• Ensure building security and maintain detailed operational records
• Identify and address safety hazards, enforce facility rules, and manage hazardous materials safely
• Support event setups and assist junior staff and new team members
• Deliver courteous public service in compliance with policies and safety regulations

Ideal Candidate:

• Holds a Refrigeration Operator Certificate (RO) and an Arena Ice Maker’s certificate (or equivalent)
• At least two years of relevant experience
• Strong knowledge of arena refrigeration systems, ice resurfacing, building maintenance, and safety protocols including WHMIS and emergency procedures
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and DDC building controls
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently, interact professionally with the public, and adapt to flexible schedules
• Additional assets: Forklift certification and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
