FACILITIES OPERATOR II

Position Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain the ammonia refrigeration plant for a twin sheet arena
• Manage HVAC systems and conduct routine inspections and repairs
• Perform ice maintenance, including operating resurfacing equipment, edging, and measuring
• Install and remove ice and related markings, maintaining high-quality ice surfaces
• Implement preventative maintenance and handle minor construction and custodial tasks
• Ensure building security and maintain detailed operational records
• Identify and address safety hazards, enforce facility rules, and manage hazardous materials safely
• Support event setups and assist junior staff and new team members
• Deliver courteous public service in compliance with policies and safety regulations

Ideal Candidate:

• Refrigeration Operator Certificate (RO) and Arena Ice Maker’s certificate or equivalent
• At least two years of relevant experience
• Strong knowledge of refrigeration systems, ice resurfacing, and building maintenance
• Knowledge of safety protocols including WHMIS, emergency procedures, and janitorial practices
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and DDC building controls
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and interact professionally with the public
• Flexible schedule adaptability
• Additional assets: Forklift certification and valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
