Job summary

The Municipality of Colchester is seeking a permanent, full-time Public Works Labourer to maintain sewer systems, streets, sidewalks, buildings and green spaces, including winter snow removal operations. 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday daytime hours.

Candidates must have Grade 12, experience operating heavy equipment such as snowplows, mini excavator, sidewalk plows, and mowing equipment; a driver’s license; and the ability to obtain Wastewater Certification Class 2 within 5 years.

Qualifications

• Completion of grade 12 education or equivalent.
• Experience operating heavy equipment and machinery including snowplows, sidewalk plows, mini excavator, and mowing equipment.
• Experience in concrete forming and pouring, and finishing, an asset.
• Experience in the maintenance and construction procedures of a sewer system, an asset.
• Ability to obtain Wastewater Collection Certification Class 2 within 5 years.
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act as it applies to this work.
• Class 3 Nova Scotia Driver's License with Air Brake endorsement preferred; Class 5 may be considered.
• Conditions of employment include medical and vision examinations, a satisfactory criminal record check and driver's abstract.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the Municipality’s sewer systems, streets, sidewalks, buildings and green spaces.
• Perform winter snow removal operations.
• Safely operate heavy equipment and vehicles used in construction and maintenance.
• Work 40 hours per week, Monday–Friday daytime hours.
