Job summary

County of Simcoe is seeking a Seasonal Solid Waste Attendant to assist at the Stayner site from late November to late April. The role involves operating weigh scales, handling tippage fees, and completing required documentation while maintaining a tidy site and providing courteous service to the public.

You will manage divertible materials, operate HHW depots, troubleshoot minor equipment and cash/debit machines, and support grounds maintenance as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent as per County policy.
• Good writing, mathematical and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated computer experience in a Windows environment.
• Courteous interaction with the public.
• Willingness to work Saturdays regularly.
• Valid G Class Driver's license and access to reliable vehicle.
• Criminal Records Check valid within six months at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate electronic weigh scales and collect tippage fees.
• Complete required landfill and transfer station documentation and logs.
• Deal with customers and contractors in a positive, courteous manner; resolve conflicts.
• Manage and remove contaminants from divertable materials.
• Operate HHW Depot; accept materials and bulk appropriately.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with computer, debit/credit machines, or printer.
• Operate small equipment as trained (e.g., skid steer, lawn mower, weed eater).
• Direct customers to correct waste diversion areas.
• Maintain grounds and site cleanliness; assist with additional duties as needed.
• Comply with OH&S regulations and protect confidentiality.
