Comox Valley Regional District in Comox, BC is seeking a Survey Crew Chief (Contractor) to lead field survey teams and ensure accuracy on outdoor projects.

You will coordinate with Project Managers, mentor Survey Assistants, and apply Trimble equipment including GPS and Total Stations to deliver reliable outputs. Requires 3–5 years of crew chief experience and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in surveying, geomatics or civil engineering, or equivalent experience.
• Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and Total Stations (Robotic).
• Experience with Trimble equipment and software; laser scanning and line locating is an asset.

Responsabilités

• Manage and perform field survey work with the support of Survey Assistants.
• Coordinate field survey work with Project Managers; review budgets, schedules, priorities, and survey methods.
• Liaise with client field representatives and landowners; prepare field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data for different audiences.
• Provide guidance, training and mentorship to Survey Assistants.
• Contribute to development and implementation of industry best practices and efficient field processes and new technology.
• Proactively participate in and support the Client safety program.
• Complete office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned.

Our dynamic Geomatics team is looking for a Survey Crew Chief (Contractor) in Comox, BC/Courtney Region .

What you will do: Manage and perform field survey work with the support of Survey Assistants.

Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, review and manage project budgets, schedules, priorities, and survey methodology.

Liaise with client field representatives and landowners and be a brand ambassador for Client Prepare field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences.

Provide guidance, training and mentorship to Survey Assistants.

Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology.

Proactively participate in and support the Client safety program.

Complete office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned.

What you will bring: Diploma/Degree in a post-secondary program related to surveying, geomatics or civil engineering, or equivalent experience.

Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and Total Stations (Including Robotic).

Experience of Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning and line locating considered an asset.

• 3-5 years of experience in a Survey Crew Chief role completing construction and legal surveys is required Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.

Effective verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to produce accurate and legible field notes.

The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment.

An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget.

A valid driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract; and Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace Job Conditions: Out-of-town work (possible shift work).

Ability to carry, lift and push up to 50lbs on a regular basis.

Night shift may be required.

Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
