Job summary

GeoVerra is seeking a Survey Crew Chief in Edmonton, AB to lead field survey activities and mentor assistants. You’ll coordinate with Project Managers on budgets and schedules while liaising with clients and landowners as a GeoVerra ambassador.

The role requires 3–5 years in a Survey Crew Chief position, strong field skills, and the ability to deliver surveys on time and on budget in a outdoors setting. Edmonton-based with potential out-of-town work.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in surveying/geomatics/civil engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of survey equipment and GPS/Total Station use, including robotic systems.
  • Experience with Trimble gear and laser scanning is an asset.
  • 3–5 years in a Survey Crew Chief role for construction, industrial and legal surveys.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork and field problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and perform field survey work with Survey Assistants.
  • Coordinate field survey work with Project Managers, budgets and schedules.
  • Liaise with client representatives and act as GeoVerra ambassador.
  • Prepare field notes, sketches and data for various audiences.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Survey Assistants.
  • Support safety programs and develop best practices.
  • Complete office tasks as required.

Our dynamic Geomatics team is looking for a Survey Crew Chief in Edmonton, AB. As the successful candidate you are organized and highly collaborative, with strong communication skills and an infectious positivity that impacts and motivates all team members. You have a strong ability to operate equipment and field tools, with a healthy respect for the great outdoors and the timeline of the task at hand.

What you will do:
  • Manage and perform field survey work with the support of Survey Assistants.
  • Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, review and manage project budgets, schedules, priorities, and survey methodology.
  • Liaise with client field representatives and landowners and be a brand ambassador for GeoVerra.
  • Prepare field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences.
  • Provide guidance, training and mentorship to Survey Assistants.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology.
  • Proactively participate in and support the GeoVerra safety program.
  • Complete office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned.
What you will bring:
  • Diploma/Degree in a post-secondary program related to surveying, geomatics or civil engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and Total Stations (Including Robotic).
  • Experience of Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning and line locating considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a Survey Crew Chief role completing construction, Industrial and legal surveys is required
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to produce accurate and legible field notes.
  • The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment.
  • An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget.
  • A valid driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract; and
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace
Job Conditions:
  • Out-of-town work (possible shift work).
  • Ability to carry, lift and push up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Night shift may be required.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
