Job summary

Vivo for Healthier Generations in Calgary seeks a Volleyball Instructor to deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate volleyball programming for children and youth. You will teach fundamental skills, promote safety, foster confidence, and create a welcoming, inclusive learning environment.

You'll work with a supportive team, align with our community-focused mission, and help participants enjoy sport while building lifelong love for the game through structured sessions and positive feedback.

Qualifications

  • Volleyball coaching or instructional experience with strong understanding of fundamental volleyball skills.
  • Experience coaching, instructing, officiating, or leading volleyball programs, camps, clinics, or teams (youth or recreational preferred).
  • Passion for athlete development and helping participants build confidence, skills, and love for the game.
  • Experience working with children, youth, or diverse participant groups in sport, recreation, education, or community setting.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and group management skills.
  • Ability to create fun, safe, inclusive, and engaging experiences for all participants.
  • NCCP Volleyball Coach certification or equivalent coaching training considered an asset.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C/AED certification (required).
  • Post-secondary education in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation, Education, Sport Management, or related field considered an asset.

  • Facilitate volleyball programs, school activity days, drop-in sessions, tournaments, and special events.
  • Assess participant skill development and provide constructive feedback to support growth.
  • Monitor participant progress and adapt instruction to maximize engagement and learning.

Role

As a Volleyball Instructor, you are responsible for delivering engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate volleyball programming that supports skill development, confidence, and a lifelong love for sport. Through high-quality instruction and positive participant experiences, you will help athletes build fundamental and sport-specific volleyball skills in a safe, supportive, and fun environment.

You will connect with participants, families, and teammates in ways that bring the Gen H Lifestyle to life, fostering confidence, enjoyment, teamwork, and a sense of belonging through volleyball. This role requires strong technical knowledge of the sport, a passion for athlete development, and the ability to adapt programming to meet the needs of diverse participants and skill levels.

You will contribute to the delivery, evaluation, and ongoing evolution of volleyball programming while creating a safe, welcoming, and motivating environment for all participants.

Reports to: Sports Coordinator

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality volleyball programming, including instructional classes, skill development programs, camps, clinics, and recreational play opportunities .
  • Design and instruct developmentally appropriate volleyball sessions for children and youth, focusing on fundamental movement skills and volleyball-specific techniques such as serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, and court positioning.
  • Create engaging, inclusive, and adaptable lesson plans that accommodate varying ages, abilities, and skill levels.
  • Facilitate volleyball programs, school activity days, drop-in sessions, tournaments, and special events.
  • Assess participant skill development and provide constructive feedback that supports individual growth and confidence.
  • Monitor participant progress and adapt instruction to maximize engagement, learning, and enjoyment.
  • Track, monitor, and report participation trends, feedback, and observations from participants and families.
  • Build strong relationships with participants and families to understand their needs and enhance program experiences.
  • Collaborate with team members to evaluate and refine program delivery through continuous improvement practices.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new volleyball program concepts, camps, clinics, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Integrate real-time feedback and learnings into programming to improve participant outcomes and program quality.
  • Support the creation and review of operational procedures, curriculum resources, and training materials.
  • Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive environment that supports physical, emotional, and social development.
  • Ensure equipment, facilities, and program spaces are maintained in a safe and organized manner.
  • Be accountable for achieving program goals, participant satisfaction, and overall program quality.
