Job summary

Vivo for Healthier Generations is seeking a Fitness Consultant in Calgary to create a welcoming fitness environment and support members in achieving health goals. You will engage guests, lead facility tours, promote classes and memberships, and maintain a safe, clean space.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in fitness/recreation or customer service, active AFLCA/Canfitpro credentials or equivalents, first aid/CPR, and comfort with scheduling software (Avocado).

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in fitness, recreation, or customer service environments.
  • Post‑secondary education in Kinesiology, Recreation, Health Promotion, or related field is an asset.
  • Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification (AFLCA), canfitpro (PTS), or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR‑C/AED certifications required.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and registration/scheduling software (e.g., Avocado) is an asset.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs as required.
  • Valid Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search completed within the past 2 months upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct facility tours and orientations for new and prospective members.
  • Promote fitness programs, personal training, memberships, and services.
  • Respond to questions, concerns, and feedback with professionalism and empathy.
  • Foster a respectful, welcoming, and community‑focused environment.
  • Take initiative to exceed member expectations and create a strong sense of belonging.
  • Monitor fitness areas to ensure safe and appropriate equipment usage.
  • Provide basic fitness guidance, spotting assistance, and member support when needed.
  • Prepare fitness spaces and studios for scheduled classes and programming.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation of fitness areas and equipment.
  • Conduct equipment and facility checks and report maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Monitor schedules and bookings through Avocado to ensure operational accuracy.

Core Accountability

Create a safe, welcoming, and engaging fitness environment while supporting members and guests in achieving their health and wellness goals. Deliver exceptional customer experiences, promote participation in Vivo programs and services, and support the day‑to‑day operation of fitness spaces.

Primary Responsibilities
Member & Guest Experience
  • Build strong relationships with members, guests, and the community
  • Welcome and support members in a professional, inclusive, and approachable manner
  • Conduct facility tours and orientations for new and prospective members
  • Promote fitness programs, personal training, memberships, and services
  • Respond to questions, concerns, and feedback with professionalism and empathy
  • Foster a respectful, welcoming, and community‑focused environment
  • Take initiative to exceed member expectations and create a strong sense of belonging
Fitness Floor Operations
  • Monitor fitness areas to ensure safe and appropriate equipment usage
  • Provide basic fitness guidance, spotting assistance, and member support when needed
  • Prepare fitness spaces and studios for scheduled classes and programming
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation of fitness areas and equipment
  • Conduct equipment and facility checks and report maintenance concerns promptly
  • Monitor schedules and bookings through Avocado to ensure operational accuracy
  • Organize and maintain storage and equipment areas
Health & Safety
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and disinfection procedures
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies, including administering first aid when required
  • Complete incident, occurrence, and witness documentation accurately and promptly
  • Educate members on facility rules, safety expectations, and respectful behaviour
  • Support Security & Engagement Officers during escalated situations or emergencies
  • Identify and respond to unauthorized access or safety concerns promptly
Teamwork & Operational Support
  • Collaborate with team members across departments to support seamless operations
  • Provide cross‑functional support to other teams when operationally required
  • Record and track facility usage statistics and operational observations
  • Participate in in‑service trainings, meetings, and ongoing professional development
  • Maintain a professional appearance, attitude, and work ethic while on shift
  • Support a positive team culture through accountability, communication, and collaboration
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational success
