Position: Vice-President, Operations
Compensation:$nil (volunteer position)
Mandate:August 1, 2023, through July 31, 2024Reports to:Chief Operating Officer
Direct reports: Cross-Functional Support (Department)
Time commitment:10-15 hours per week*

Mission

OSTA-AECO empowers and advocates for the students of Ontario and provides rich, tailored professional development to student trustees across the province so that they are well-equipped to represent the needs of their local communities.

Position

The Vice-President, Operations is responsible for ensuring day-to-day tasks within the organization are being carried out and being a central coordinator and facilitator for ongoing initiatives within the organization.

As the head of the Cross-Functional Support team, the VP, Operations will:

  • Fulfill operational tasks at the direction of the Executive Council, such as planning meetings, organizing minutes, and other operational tasks.
  • Ensure tasks throughout the organization are completed and coordinate ongoing projects within OSTA-AECO.
  • Coordinate the Awards & Recognition department including posting and distributing awards from OSTA-AECO such as the Ontario Student Voice Awards with tasks such as:
    • Sourcing grading volunteers, coordinating the publication and distribution of the awards
  • Support Advocacy Interest Group (AIG) chairs in hosting meetings and accomplishing advocacy goals and initiatives.
  • Manage other operational aspects of the organization such as AIG directories, procedures, and inter-departmental coordination.
  • Act as a line of communication between the Cross-Functional Support team and the rest of the organization.
  • Work to provide leadership and managerial training for the General Assembly.
  • Uphold OSTA-AECO’s values as outlined in the Code of Conduct to foster a safe and healthy working environment.

The VP, Operations will also sit as a non-voting executive council member.

The successful candidate must attend OSTA-AECO’s three annual conferences and any onsite professional development sessions.

Eligibility

Any applicant for the VP, Operations must be and remain a student trustee for the duration of their mandate.

  • Adept technology skills including experience with Office 365, specifically Microsoft Teams.
