Job description

Our client is a dynamic hospitality group based in Toronto. They currently have 16 locations with another 10 under construction. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing, entrepreneurial organization with ambitious growth plans for their QSR concept.The company is well capitalized, and the VP Finance will lead the finance function and have the opportunity for career advancement as the organization grows. This role is hybrid.

THE POSITION

In this newly created position reporting to the President, the VP Finance will manage a team of three finance and accounting professionals and be responsible for the financial management and reporting for this high-growth company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee, direct, and review the timely preparation of the financial statements and reports.
  • Provide proactive advice as to technical accounting issues that may affect the Company.
  • Review General Ledger reconciliations and ensure that all material reconciling items are appropriately reflected.
  • Provide senior management with information vital to reporting and decision making.
  • Present financial results to the Board as required.
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling processes to ensure accurate and comprehensive financial projections, including the 5-year strategic plan.
  • Conduct regular analysis of financial performance, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Analyze and report on business profitability / performance and identify, calculate, and report on KPIs.
  • Ensure cash management processes meet business needs and optimize cash.
  • Dash-boarding to provide real time monthly monitoring and action.
  • Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, treasury, taxation, and financial systems.
  • Manage cash flow to investors, working capital, and capital allocation to optimize financial resources.
  • Ensure tax compliance and satisfy any required legal obligations.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize tax obligations.
  • Operate as a key financial partner to the President.
  • Integrate and collaborate with Operations and other departments to ensure that finance does not operate in a silo.
  • Instill a sense of excellence within the team, leveraging technology and standardizing procedures that force a consistent and professional accounting / reporting process.
  • Lead, coach and develop direct reports by providing clear direction, guidance and support.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15+ years of related finance experience.A minimum of 5 years in a managerial capacity and have operated at the Vice President level.
  • Preferably have trained as a CPA, CA with a public accounting firm.
  • Current or previous experience having worked in a similar capacity with another QSR / restaurant business.Candidates coming from the retail, hospitality or another multi-site operating business will also be considered.
  • Strong technical accountant with exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Proficiency with ASPE and private company reporting is preferred.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Technologically proficient with an understanding of how to utilize it to improve the overall finance function.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite and general computer skills.Knowledge of Restaurant 365 would be a plus.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to work; requires minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • A high energy, positive person.
  • Hands-on style; will “roll up sleeves” to do the work.
  • A sense of humour.
