Job description

We are thrilled to be partnering with a privately-owned Canadian success story with an 85-year history of innovation and growth in the international food and commodity sector to find a Vice President, Finance for their team. They operate world-wide, as a major player in the food trading and distribution business, and more recently, value-added proteins. They are driven by their vision to use their industry-leading expertise to provide their partners in the global food ecosystem with access to the most diverse assortment of food products and markets.

Their continued growth, via both organic and recent M&A activity, has led to the creation of a Vice President, Finance position, reporting directly to the CFO, and leading the full finance function. The VP Finance will lead a team of over 30 professionals, and drive the focus on continuous improvement in processes, analysis, and strategic influence across the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

1. Financial oversight of all compliance areas, including financing and customer credit agreements.
2. Supporting strategic planning and decision support, both long-term and current.
3. Creating improved Budgeting, Forecasting, and Variance analysis for long-term and current budgets, in support of the strategic plan.
4. Cash Flow and Foreign Exchange management to support significant working capital investment in global commodities and other inventory.
5. Risk Management and mitigation to meet regulatory requirements and standards, and safeguard company assets and investments.
6. Team leadership and development, creating a culture of transparency and continuous improvement.
7. Stakeholder Engagement by creating a robust system of reporting key metrics to drive action.
8. Driving Operational Improvement across the organization by collaborating with the leadership team.

The following qualifications will contribute to success in the role:

1. Accounting designation, and/or relevant education (MBA, B Com.).
2. 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in finance and accounting roles.
3. Exemplary analytical, leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
4. Experience in a company with multiple legal entities in different jurisdictions.
5. Experience managing large values of multiple currencies including hedging and other risk mitigation techniques.
6. Strong software skills in Excel; experience getting maximum value from an ERP system.
7. Personal traits: integrity, dependability, urgency, driven to results.
