Job summary

Community Savings Credit Union in Surrey, BC, is seeking a visionary Vice President to lead Credit Operations & Adjudication, overseeing retail, residential mortgage and commercial lending with a focus on prudent risk management and policy governance.

You will partner with senior leadership to drive portfolio quality, coaching, and continuous improvement while advancing the credit union’s social purpose and member-focused service.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in business, finance, commerce, economics or related discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 10+ years of progressive lending, credit adjudication or credit leadership experience in a regulated financial institution.
  • Experience leading managers or senior professionals; experience leading through Directors is preferred.
  • Credit union experience is strongly preferred.

THE ROLE:

The Vice President, Credit Operations & Adjudication reports to the CEO and provides oversight for retail, residential mortgage and commercial credit activities. The role supports prudent, consistent and member-focused lending practices while ensuring the credit union operates within approved policy, delegated authority, regulatory requirements and enterprise risk appetite and credit risk parameters.

Core Outcomes:
Credit Policy Administration
  • Administer and maintain approved lending policies, procedures, adjudication guidelines and delegated lending authorities.
  • Identify policy gaps or emerging risk trends and recommend practical updates for Executive review and approval.
  • Ensure lending decisions and documentation practices are consistent with approved policy and regulatory expectations.
  • Anticipate and respond to evolving regulatory expectations and industry trends by driving continuous enhancement of lending policies, procedures, governance frameworks, and risk controls.
  • Lead consistent, timely and well-documented adjudication practicesacross residential, consumer and commercial lending.
  • Maintain underwriting standards, credit analysis expectations,exception controls and escalation practices.
  • Provide senior credit guidance on complex or higher-risk lendingmatters within delegated authority.
Retail & Commercial Credit Oversight
  • Provide oversight for retail, residential mortgage and commercialcredit activities through the Director, Retail Credit & Operations andDirector, Commercial Credit.
  • Support alignment between lending growth, member service,portfolio quality and prudent credit risk management.
  • Promote consistent credit coaching and learning across lendingteams.
Collections & Special Accounts
  • Oversee collections, recovery and special accounts practices,including early intervention, workout strategies and loss mitigation.
  • Ensure delinquency, arrears and impaired accounts are activelymonitored and escalated appropriately.
  • Recommend settlement, recovery or restructuring actions withindelegated authority.
  • P artner with Risk and executive leaders to ensure emerging credit risksare identified, assessed and escalated in line with the credit union’s riskappetite.
  • Monitor credit portfolio performance, including delinquencytrends, exceptions, concentrations, arrears, losses and emerging credit qualityconcerns.
  • Prepare clear portfolio reporting and analysis for Executivereview and support Board, Risk Committee, Audit Committee as required.
  • Recommend operational or policy actions to improve portfolioquality, member outcomes and risk controls.
Credit Operations
  • Lead credit administration, documentation standards, qualityassurance, workflow effectiveness and operational controls.
  • Drive continuous improvement in credit processes, service levels,internal handoffs and system usage.
  • Partner with Finance, Risk, Operations, Retail, Commercial andPeople & Culture to support responsible lending practices.
Leadership & Culture
  • Lead, coach and their teams, setting clear expectations foraccountability, consistency and service quality.
  • Build leadership capability within credit teams through clearexpectations, coaching, performance accountability and succession planning.
  • Model CSCU values and support the credit union’s purpose ofuniting working people to build a just world.
  • Build a collaborative, learning-focused and risk-aware creditculture.
REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

This position will require the following technical skills:

  • Strong knowledge of credit union lending policy, adjudicationframeworks and delegated lending authorities.
  • Advanced understanding of commercial credit, residential mortgagelending, retail lending and credit documentation standards.
  • Strong credit analysis, portfolio monitoring, collections/specialaccounts and loss mitigation expertise.
  • Ability to interpret portfolio data, identify emerging creditrisks and make practical recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of BC credit union regulation, auditexpectations, privacy considerations and consumer protection requirements.
  • Strong operational leadership, process improvement andcross-functional problem-solving skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Post-secondary education in business, finance,commerce, economics or a related discipline; equivalent experience may beconsidered.
  • 10+ years of progressive lending, creditadjudication or credit leadership experience in a regulated financialinstitution.
  • Significant demonstrated experience in both commercialand residential credit, underwriting standards and portfolio monitoring.
  • Experience leading managers or senior professionals;experience leading through Directors is preferred.
  • Experience with collections, special accounts,credit operations, policy administration and audit/regulatory reviews ispreferred.
  • Credit union experience is strongly preferred.
