Job description

VCA California Veterinary Specialists in Ontario is the largest 24-hour Emergency and Specialty hospital in the Inland Empire. For over 10 years, we have provided exceptional veterinary services and patient care. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Neurology team as an experienced Veterinary Assistant. You will support our Board Certified Neurologist as part of this department.

This is a full-time position, Monday through Thursday, with four 10-hour shifts.

Compensation : $28 - $32 per hour

Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and relevant credentials.

Ideal candidates will possess :

• Strong critical thinking skills
• Excellent client communication skills : obtaining histories, presenting treatment plans, reviewing discharge instructions and medications, and educating clients on complex disease processes
• Strong patient restraint and handling skills
• Ability to monitor and perform treatments for patients requiring intensive management, recognize significant changes, and notify the veterinarian
• Experience monitoring patients under anesthesia
• Proficiency in running in-house lab samples and handling submissions to outside laboratories
• Experience with venipuncture and IV catheter placement
• Familiarity with specialized equipment and a willingness to learn new skills
• Experience with MRI studies is a plus
• Assist the veterinarian with case management, including follow-ups, prescriptions, and medical records
