Job summary

National Veterinary Associates is seeking a Small Animal Surgeon for the Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital of West Toronto, a 24-hour emergency and referral hospital in West Toronto, ON. This permanent role offers flexible scheduling with no on-call, evening, or weekend requirements and opportunities to shape the growth of the surgical service.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with licensure eligibility in Ontario.
  • Board Certification in Surgery or completed Surgery residency.
  • Strong surgical skills in orthopedic and soft tissue procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Balance consultations, case workups, and surgeries with a schedule supporting patient care and work-life balance.
  • Perform orthopedic and soft tissue procedures using advanced equipment, including arthroscopy and LigaSure.
  • Manage complex cases in collaboration with Emergency, Anesthesia, and referral services.
  • Utilize extensive orthopedic instrumentation and implants to deliver high-quality care.
  • Work with an experienced Surgeon and board-certified Anesthesiologist to provide perioperative care.
  • Help grow the hospital’s surgical service as specialty offerings develop.
  • Mentor and collaborate with the veterinary team and communicate clearly with referring vets and clients.

In your day-to-day, you will:

  • Balance consultations, case workups, and surgical procedures while maintaining a schedule that supports both excellent patient care and your desired work-life balance.
  • Perform orthopedic and soft tissue procedures using advanced surgical equipment, including arthroscopy and LigaSure vessel-sealing technology.
  • Manage complex surgical cases in collaboration with Emergency, Anesthesia, and other referral services.
  • Utilize extensive orthopedic instrumentation and implants to deliver high-quality surgical care.
  • Work alongside an experienced Surgeon and board-certified Anesthesiologist to provide comprehensive perioperative patient care.
  • Help strengthen and expand the hospital’s surgical service as additional specialty offerings are developed.
  • Mentor and collaborate with the veterinary team, contributing to a culture of teamwork, learning, and clinical excellence.
  • Support referring veterinarians and pet owners through clear, compassionate communication throughout the surgical process.

What You Bring

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for veterinary licensure in Ontario.
  • Board Certification in Surgery or completion of a Surgery residency.
  • Strong surgical skills and an interest in both orthopedic and soft tissue surgery.
