Job summary

Agnico Eagle Mines Limited seeks a Ventilation Engineer to join the Macassa Mine team in Kirkland Lake, Ontario. You will design, upgrade, and monitor ventilation systems, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, and coordinating with planning to meet life-of-mine needs.

Qualifications

  • Mining Engineering Diploma/Technologist Diploma or Mining Engineering Degree.
  • Ability to work alone underground for extended periods.
  • Proficiency with AutoCad, Amine, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Design and upgrade ventilation systems to meet regulations and Life of Mine Plan.
  • Conduct quarterly ventilation surveys and air balance assessments.
  • Monitor and maintain ventilation system performance.
  • Optimize ventilation efficiency and overall mine airflow.
  • Manage and update ventilation drawings and emergency room references.
  • Ensure adequate diesel operation airflow and contaminant limits.
  • Maintain ventilation controls and calibration records.
  • Conduct weekly ventiliation checks and monthly surface fan inspections.
  • Coordinate with Planning for ventilation requirements and changes.
  • Issue directives for vent control installations and devices.

YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Reporting to the Lead Ventilation Engineer, you will be part of the Engineering Department. You will also ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

  • Ventilation designs and major ventilation upgrades to meet all regulatory requirements and support the Life of Mine Plan;
  • Conduct quarterly ventilation surveys and air balance to determine the efficiency of the ventilation system;
  • Monitoring and maintenance of the ventilation system to ensure they operate efficiently;
  • Optimization of the ventilation system;
  • Manage, maintain and monitor the ventilation system of the mine to meet the mining requirements;
  • Ensure updated ventilation drawings/plans are kept at the emergency control room and the mine rescue station;
  • Ensure adequate airflow that meets the regulatory requirement for diesel operation circulate through the mine and at development headings;
  • Ensure contaminant load in the mine atmosphere is within the allowable limits;
  • Maintain all ventilation controls in operational condition;
  • Conduct weekly ventiliation checks in active and inactive areas of the mine;
  • Review and update the ventilation management plan every year or when a new risk emerges;
  • Keep an up-to-date calibrated ventsim model of the mine for mine planning and design;
  • Keep an up-to-date fan inventory system (Auxiliary fans, booster, and Main fans);
  • Maintain ventilation measuring and monitoring equipment register and organize calibration accordingly;
  • Conduct a primary ventilation survey and air balance every quarter;
  • Conduct monthly inspections of all surface fans. This will include measuring pressure drops across the fans;
  • Conduct weekly follow-ups to ensure ventilation remedial works are carried out;
  • Liaise with Planning leads for the planning of ventilation requirements;
  • Manage any changes to the ventilation system;
  • Issue ventilation directives for the installation of the vent controls (e.g., fans doors, walls, etc.);
  • Ensure vent controls devises are properly constructed and maintained;
  • Submit a Methane occurrence report to the Ministry of Labour when a diamond drill hole hits a methane pocket.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Mining Engineering Technician or Technologist Diploma, or Mining Engineering Degree;
  • Ability to work alone for extended periods of time underground;
  • Proficiency with AutoCad, Amine, and Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Reliable and self-managing;
  • Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
