As we continue to grow and expand, Richmond Hill Toyota is seeking a motivated, results-driven Vehicle Acquisitions Specialist to join our team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in sourcing, evaluating, negotiating, and acquiring high-quality pre-owned vehicles through digital auctions, wholesale channels, franchise and independent dealerships, and direct-to-consumer opportunities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an automotive professional who has a strong understanding of the used-vehicle market, enjoys building relationships, and thrives in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.

Position Summary

The Vehicle Acquisitions Specialist supports Used Car Operations by identifying and acquiring desirable, profitable pre-owned inventory that aligns with dealership demand, market conditions, and vAuto pricing and inventory guidelines.

The role combines inside and outside buying, requiring the successful candidate to evaluate vehicles remotely through digital auction platforms while also developing relationships with dealerships and travelling to inspect, appraise, and negotiate vehicle purchases.

The successful candidate will be responsible for making disciplined acquisition decisions based on market data, vehicle condition, recon requirements, retail potential, acquisition cost, and expected profitability.

Key Responsibilities
Inside Buying
  • Monitor and evaluate available inventory through OPENLANE, EBlock, ADESA Simulcast, franchise dealer websites, and other wholesale and private-sale channels.
  • Identify vehicles that meet dealership inventory requirements based on vAuto market data, inventory gaps, pricing, demand, and profitability.
  • Submit bids within approved purchasing guidelines and elevate exceptions for management approval.
  • Evaluate auction condition reports, vehicle history, market pricing, fees, transportation costs, and anticipated reconditioning requirements.
  • Track purchased vehicles from acquisition through transportation and dealership arrival.
  • Coordinate transportation and ensure purchased units arrive within expected timelines.
  • Maintain accurate acquisition records, including purchase price, fees, condition reports, transport costs, and estimated recon.
Outside Buying
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with franchise and independent dealerships, wholesalers, and other automotive partners.
  • Travel to partner dealerships to inspect, appraise, negotiate, and purchase vehicles.
  • Provide live appraisal services for trade-ins and wholesale opportunities.
  • Evaluate vehicle condition, equipment, market position, recon requirements, and retail potential.
  • Negotiate purchases using market data and established dealership acquisition guidelines.
  • Communicate regularly with leadership regarding inventory opportunities, competitive pricing, market conditions, and acquisition strategy.
  • Arrange transportation for purchased vehicles and track units through delivery.
  • Maintain complete and accurate appraisal documentation, including condition notes, valuation rationale, and estimated reconditioning costs.
Inventory & Market Management
  • Monitor local and wholesale market trends to identify acquisition opportunities.
  • Understand dealership inventory needs and proactively source vehicles that fill identified gaps.
  • Use vAuto and other market intelligence tools to evaluate pricing, demand, competitive positioning, and potential profitability.
  • Help maintain a balanced inventory with strong retail appeal and predictable reconditioning requirements.
  • Provide regular feedback to management on market trends, pricing changes, and competitive activity.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience in automotive sales, used-vehicle operations, vehicle acquisition, wholesale buying, appraising, or dealership inventory management.
  • Strong understanding of the used-vehicle market and current market trends.
  • Experience with vAuto or similar inventory and vehicle valuation tools is an asset.
  • Strong vehicle knowledge, including trim levels, options, mechanical condition, market values, and typical reconditioning requirements.
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong communication with dealership leadership.
  • Comfortable working both in a dealership environment and travelling to outside locations.
  • OMVIC Certified.
  • Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
