Job summary

Wright Tree Service of Canada, a Wright Canada Holdings unit, is seeking a Utility Arborist (UTT) to join our crew. This full-time role involves trimming, pruning, and removing trees near power lines, with inspections and safe operation of chainsaws, lifts and other equipment.

You will train and supervise crew members, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards while supporting utility vegetation management across urban and rural settings.

Qualifications

  • Certified Utility Arborist (CUA or UA) or Utility Tree Trimmer (UTT), or ability to challenge exam.
  • Basic knowledge of trees, including identification and arboriculture techniques for trimming and removal.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with few demerits; pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
  • First aid with CPR or willingness to obtain; ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in various weather and environmental conditions; comply with drug/alcohol policy.

Responsibilities

  • Trim, prune, and remove trees and branches near power lines and utility infrastructure.
  • Conduct regular inspections around power lines to identify hazards.
  • Work in both urban and rural areas near overhead/underground lines.
  • Use techniques to bring down trees without damaging property or equipment.
  • Operate chainsaws, pole saws, aerial lifts, chipper trucks, stump grinders, and cranes.
  • Train and supervise crew members to follow safety procedures around high-voltage gear.
  • Maintain records of tree maintenance, removal schedules, and vegetation-related damage.
  • Track progress and document work for regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure environmental regulations are followed to minimize habitat impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Trim, prune, and remove trees and branches that pose a risk to power lines, poles, and other utility infrastructure
  • Conduct regular inspections of areas around power lines to assess potential hazards posed by trees or branches
  • Work in both urban and rural environments, managing vegetation near overhead and underground utility lines
  • Use specialized techniques to safely bring down trees without damaging surrounding property, infrastructure, or utility equipment
  • Operate power tools and equipment such as chainsaws, pole saws, aerial lifts, chipper trucks, stump grinders, and cranes to perform tree trimming and removal
  • Train and supervise crew members to ensure that safety procedures are followed, especially when working around high-voltage electrical equipment
  • Maintain records of tree maintenance activities, including tree removal, pruning schedules, and any damage caused by vegetation to utility infrastructure
  • Track vegetation management progress and document completed work for utility records or regulatory compliance
  • Ensure work is done in compliance with environmental regulations, minimizing damage to natural habitats and wildlife
  • Other duties as required
Experience and Knowledge Expectations
  • Certified Utility Arborist (CUA or UA) or Utility Tree Trimmer (UTT), or ability to challenge exam.
  • Basic knowledge of trees, including identification, growth habits and correct arboriculture techniques for trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining and removing.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers’ license with less than 6 demerits Applicant must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening Current First Aid with CPR or willingness to obtain Ability to lift, move and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather and environmental conditions.
  • Must adhere to the Company’s Drug and Alcohol policy.
