Job summary

The City of Colwood is seeking a highly reliable Utility Operator I to join the Public Works – Utilities team. This full-time union position operates under CUPE Local 374 and pays a rate of $37.42 per hour (2026 rate).

HOURS: Monday–Friday, 7:00am–4:30pm, 40 hours per week. Benefits are provided per the Collective Agreement. Applicants should have relevant licenses, experience with wastewater and stormwater systems, and the ability to work safely in field conditions.

Qualifications

• Two years related experience minimum.
• Experience with sanitary lift stations.
• Experience with sanitary and drain networks construction/maintenance.
• Experience around mobile construction equipment.
• Experience around underground excavations.
• Snow plowing experience is an asset.
• Heavy machinery experience is an asset.
• Confined Space/ Fall Protection training asset.
• Heavy Trailer Endorsement or Class 3 license asset.
• Equivalent education/training considered.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection, maintenance, repair, and construction of wastewater collection and stormwater systems.
• Support field operations including underground repairs, lift stations, and system cleaning.
• Participate in emergency response activities and infrastructure inspections.
• Adhere to workplace policies and promote safety and ethical conduct.
