Job summary

Olameter in Kingston, ON is hiring a Part Time Utility Meter Technician to perform meter reads, disconnects/reconnects, and collections in the Kingston area. Applicants must be 18+, have a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and a clean CBC.

Work is part-time, day shift Monday through Friday, with vacation coverage that may convert to full-time hours. Safety gear, paid training, and rate options are provided to field staff.

We are currently hiring for a Part Time Utility Meter Technician who will be performing Utility Meter Reads as well as Submetering Disconnects/Reconnects and collections in the Kingston, ON area. Applicants need to be at least 18 years of age, hold a valid driver’s license, have a reliable vehicle and have a clean criminal and driving record.

Work schedule is Part Time, day shift between M-F, mostly doing vacation coverage. During vacation coverage position will likely be Full Time hours.

All of our field staff are provided with:

  • Safety gear including company boot (allowance), vests, glasses, etc.
  • Paid Training
  • Some work will be paid by piece rate, while other work will be paid a flat daily rate

Responsibilities:

Collections is a process that involves the recovery of outstanding debts through face-to-face communication between the debtors and the collection agents. This method is often used when traditional collection efforts, such as phone calls, letters, and emails, have proven insufficient to recover the debt. Collectors are trained professionals with extensive debt recovery experience. They are skilled in communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution and thoroughly understand the legal and regulatory framework surrounding debt collection.

  • Carry out and adhere to all Olameter Collections processes at all times.
  • Accept and complete all daily assignments/tasks, as deemed reasonable, by Olameter RFM or associated on-site management personnel.
  • Upload/download daily route/work assignments (i.e. of handheld data-capture devices) as required to accommodate the Utility’s schedule (if applicable).
  • Adhere to all safety related programs/procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Act in a professional, courteous manner at all times, while exercising common sense.
  • Maintain an acceptable level of personal hygiene and be well groomed (i.e. clean uniform, clean shaven and/or neatly trimmed beards/moustache, etc.) at all times.
  • Maintain and adhere to all required Olameter written procedures/check lists to ensure efficient, accurate and timely service maintenance.
  • Report field hazards/problems and add efficiencies to enhance the quality of services.
  • Update and maintain all available handheld fields as required to enhance and ensure Olameter’s quality and quantity of associated services (i.e. notes, meter location, etc.).
  • Comply with company procedures/policies pertaining to the use and care of all Olameter /Utility issued equipment and/or property.
  • Communicate on a weekly basis, all data as required for timely/accurate payroll/customer invoicing to Olameter’s head office, utilizing applicable Olameter provided format(s).
  • Communicate all issues and concerns directly to the RFM, or associated on-site management personnel, in a timely fashion. Communication with the Utility must be limited to issues as directly related to daily assignments/tasks (i.e. reporting of safety concerns, potential power diversion, can’t read issues, etc.).
  • Use and care of all PPE supplied by Olameter reporting any loss or damage of PPE to the RFM
  • Perform disconnects/reconnects of utilities as required.
  • All other duties as assigned in accordance with the specific project.

Requirements:

  • EUSA and standard first aid/CPR A certified
  • Reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license with current vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to provide a clean driver’s abstract and criminal background check (CBC).
  • General computer knowledge.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Proven customer relation skills.
  • High school graduate
  • Has access to confidential client information.
  • This position requires working outdoors in all-weather environments including rain, snow, extreme cold, or high heat. Requires travel by car; may be exposed to road related hazards, climbing stairs and walking on unpaved/rough terrain areas.
