Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is seeking a Utility Arborist Apprentice to begin gaining hands-on exposure in all aspects of the Arborist role.

You will spend time in the field supporting Arborists while ensuring a clean, safe, and organized site, with the goal of advancing toward becoming a Certified Arborist. The position is full-time and year-round, located in Barrie, ON, with ongoing training, benefits, RRSP/TFSA program, and a company-owned stock plan after six months.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid provincial driver’s license; license to drive a 5-ton vehicle is preferred and air brake endorsement is an asset.
• Previous arboriculture/horticulture experience is required or preferred.
• Experience with utility line clearing is considered an asset.
• Willingness to work toward becoming a certified Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely in a team and demonstrate a willingness to learn and progress.

Responsibilities

• Control lowering ropes.
• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control road and sidewalk traffic as needed with warning devices.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.
• Complete proper job site cleanup.
• Assist other crew members in performing job duties.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.
