Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited. is hiring an Arborist Apprentice to gain hands-on exposure across the Arborist role. You will support field crews, maintain a safe site, and work toward becoming a Certified Arborist.

Full-time, year-round position in Maidstone, Ontario. Wage range is $20–$25/hour, with pay depending on education, experience, and certifications; Davey provides ongoing training and benefits.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid provincial driver’s license; 5-ton vehicle experience is an asset.
• Experience in arboriculture/horticulture.
• Willingness to pursue certification as Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Teamwork and safety minded approach.

Responsibilities

• Assist Arborists in fieldwork and maintain a clean, safe site.
• Control lowering ropes and supply tools for workers aloft.
• Manage traffic around the job site as needed with warning devices.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly equipment inspections.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood; complete proper site cleanup.
• Support crew members in performing job duties; follow safety policies.

Skills

Position Overview

As an Arborist Apprentice with Davey Tree, you will begin to gain exposure on all aspects of the Arborist role. You will spend your day in the field supporting Arborists all while ensuring a clean, safe, and organized site. In time Davey Tree would look to support the apprentice in becoming a Certified Arborist.

Job Duties

• Control lowering ropes.
• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control road and sidewalk traffic as needed by use of warning devices.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.
• Complete proper job site cleanup.
• Assist other crew members in performing job duties.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement considered an asset.
• Previous arboriculture/horticulture experience.
• Willingness to work towards becoming a certified Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.
