Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is hiring a Utility Arborist Apprentice in Barrie, ON for year-round, on-site work. You will support Arborists daily, learn field safety practices, and progress toward becoming a Certified Arborist.

The role includes hands-on site duties and ongoing training. Starting wage is $20–$25 per hour, with compensation based on education and experience and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license; 5-ton vehicle endorsement is an asset.
• Arboriculture/horticulture experience preferred.
• Utility line clearing experience is an asset.
• Willingness to pursue certification as Arborist.
• Able to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Capable of safe teamwork and learning on the job.

Responsibilities

• Control lowering ropes and assist arborists throughout jobs.
• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control traffic with warning devices as needed.
• Conduct equipment maintenance on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.
• Complete proper job site cleanup.
• Assist crew members and follow safety policies.

Position Overview

As a Utility Arborist Apprentice with Davey Tree you will begin to gain exposure on all aspects of the Arborist role. You will spend your day in the field supporting Arborists all while ensuring a clean, safe, and organized site. In time Davey Tree would look to support the apprentice in becoming a Certified Arborist.

Job Duties

• Control lowering ropes.
• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control road and sidewalk traffic as needed by use of warning devices.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.
• Complete proper job site cleanup.
• Assist other crew members in performing job duties.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement considered an asset.
• Previous arboriculture/horticulture experience.
• Utility line clearing experience an asset.
• Willingness to work towards becoming a certified Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.
