Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking an Arborist Apprentice for Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario. You will begin in the field, supporting Arborists and keeping a clean, safe site, with a view toward certification as a Certified Arborist.

Full-time, on-site employment with ongoing training, benefits, RRSP/TFSA, stock purchase after 6 months, and referral programs. Must be 18+ with a valid Ontario driver’s license and relevant arboriculture experience.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license; license to drive a 5-ton vehicle considered an asset.
• Previous arboriculture or horticulture experience.
• Willingness to work toward becoming a certified Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and learn.

Responsibilities

• Assist in controlling lowering ropes and supplying tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control road and sidewalk traffic using warning devices as needed.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood; complete proper site cleanup.
• Support other crew members in performing job duties; adhere to safety policies.

Position Overview

As an Arborist Apprentice with Davey Tree, you will begin to gain exposure on all aspects of the Arborist role. You will spend your day in the field supporting Arborists all while ensuring a clean, safe, and organized site. In time Davey Tree would look to support the apprentice in becoming a Certified Arborist.

Job Duties

• Control lowering ropes.


• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.


• Control road and sidewalk traffic as needed by use of warning devices.


• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.


• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.


• Complete proper job site cleanup.


• Assist other crew members in performing job duties.


• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement considered an asset.


• Previous arboriculture/horticulture experience.


• Willingness to work towards becoming a certified Arborist.


• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.


• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.


• $20-$25/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications.
