Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co is looking for a Utility Arborist Apprentice in Nanaimo, British Columbia. This is a full-time, on-site role where you will learn from experienced Arborists while maintaining safety standards. You will engage in fieldwork, assisting Arborists, and help maintain a clean work environment.

The position offers a pay rate of $30.85 - $34.97 per hour and includes benefits such as ongoing training, a stock purchase plan, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid provincial driver's license.
• Previous experience in arboriculture or horticulture is preferred.
• Ability to work towards certification as an Arborist.

Responsibilities

• Control lowering ropes for safety.
• Assist arborists with tool supply and job duties.
• Perform maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Ensure job site is clean and organized.

Position Overview

As a Utility Arborist Apprentice with Davey Tree you will begin to gain exposure on all aspects of the Arborist role. You will spend your day in the field supporting Arborists all while ensuring a clean, safe, and organized site. In time Davey Tree would look to support the apprentice in becoming a certified Arborist.

The pay rate for this position is $30.85 - $34.97 per hour.

Job Duties

• Control lowering ropes.
• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control road and sidewalk traffic as needed by use of warning devices.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.
• Complete proper job site cleanup.
• Assist other crew members in performing job duties.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement considered an asset.
• Previous arboriculture/horticulture experience.
• Utility line clearing experience an asset.
• Willingness to work towards becoming a certified Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.
