Job summary

City of Saskatoon seeks a skilled heavy equipment operator to work under the Operations Superintendent. You will operate various equipment including trucks, loaders, and graders in the Roadways division, performing regular maintenance and keeping service records.

The role requires Grade 12, five years of heavy equipment experience, a Saskatchewan 1A licence and current driving abstract. Training delivery and safety certification are valued for certification progress.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education.
• Five years' experience operating heavy construction equipment.
• Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Driver’s Licence.
• Current SGI driver’s abstract demonstrating a safe driving record.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid certificate.
• Core training module for heavy equipment operation.
• Backhoe/excavator training module to be eligible for certification.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Operations Superintendent, this position operates various types of equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Operates various types of equipment such as trucks, front-end loaders and motor graders in the Roadways section.
• Maintains and services equipment being operated.
• Assists with the training and instruction of proper operating and servicing procedures.
• Maintains appropriate service records.
• Assists with the servicing of equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience Requirements:

• Grade 12 education.
• Five years' experience operating heavy construction equipment.
• Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 1A Driver’s Licence.
• Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid first aid certificate.
• Successful completion of, or ability to complete successfully, the core training module for heavy equipment operation.
• Successful completion of, or ability to complete successfully, the backhoe/ excavator training module to be eligible for certification.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to regularly and consistently attend work to ensure effective operations and service delivery.
• Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to follow all applicable procedures and policies.
• Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the safe and efficient operation of the equipment, and the uses and maintenance characteristics of the equipment.
• Knowledge of the methods, materials and parts used in repairing and servicing equipment.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to observe and analyse the operating capability of other operators, and to instruct and train in the process involved.
• Ability to perform the services required to assist the mechanical or service staff.
• Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.
