Job description

Entrepreneurial, autonomous, experienced team.

Opportunity to work on major, multibillion-dollar projects.

Chance to have an impact with a successful and growing company.

Flexible hours, located downtown Toronto. Design is powerful. The work we do as engineers, architects, planners, and construction professionals reshapes environments, reinvents spaces, and strengthens communities for a better, more sustainable world. None of this happens if we stand still, are complacent, or resign ourselves to accepting the status quo.

At Gannett Fleming, we are looking for talented professionals to join us as we deliver innovation, leadership, and results to our clients. Since our inception over 100 years ago, we’ve remained agile and offer a client-centric focus that most larger firms cannot provide. We want to do great things; we need your help.

As our new Utilities Lead, you’ll provide leadership and oversight on large, ongoing track and transportation projects. Your contributions will ensure a smooth process through planning and implementation stages of designs. We are currently engaged in exciting projects in the GTA with major clients including Metrolinx and the TTC. Your work will contribute directly to the success of these projects.

Your role will be a mix of project management, stakeholder relations, and technical expertise. You’ll guide a small engineering team (2 people) responsible for coordinating between our design team and utility service environments (hydro, electric, infrastructure, virtual, etc.). Using a sound technical understanding, you’ll liaise with other organizations to iterate on designs, reduce impact on utilities, and find solutions to conflicts. You will also ensure your team and third parties stay informed on project scopes and timelines.

Your tasks will include:

  1. Consulting with design teams on project utility requirements.
  2. Understanding the impact of designs on utility stakeholders through data, research, and consultation.
  3. Developing mitigation strategies and design solutions.
  4. Managing utility adjustment projects (service interruptions, relocations, modifications).
  5. Negotiating relocation agreements.
  6. Securing approval for designs within deadlines.
  7. Overseeing the work of utility engineers.

With Gannett Fleming, a firm with 40 offices across North America and 2,500 employees globally, you’ll join a team invested in quality and professional growth. Our Canadian operations include over 50 employees across multiple disciplines in the Toronto area. We value our staff and recognize your contributions.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive benefits package.
  • RRSP matching.
  • Paid attendance at professional development events.

This position is 40 hours/week, generally during business hours, with some travel within Southern Ontario.

Qualifications include:

  • Professional designation (P.Eng or similar) preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience in similar roles with large, complex transit projects.
  • Experience with multi-year projects involving diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microstation, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MS Office.
  • Experience with utility companies in Toronto.
  • Project management, scheduling, and scoping skills.

To apply, submit your application online via the Fitzii platform. We encourage applications from diverse backgrounds and are committed to accessibility and inclusion. For accommodations, contact us via the “Help” button. We look forward to hearing from you.
