Job summary

Peterborough Hyundai is seeking an experienced Used Car Manager to lead our pre-owned vehicle department. This hands-on leadership role focuses on maximizing inventory turn, profitability, team performance, and customer satisfaction while upholding operational excellence.

You will appraise trade-ins, source quality inventory, set pricing using live market data, coach the used-vehicle team, ensure online merchandising, and maintain OMVIC compliance.

Qualifications

• Years of automotive management experience, preferably in used vehicle operations.
• Knowledge of vehicle appraisal, wholesale purchasing, market-based pricing, and inventory management.
• Experience with wholesale platforms such as OpenLane and EBlock.
• Proven ability to manage inventory turn while maximizing gross profit.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of developing and motivating high-performing sales teams.
• Strong understanding of OMVIC regulations and Ontario automotive retail legislation.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Experience using inventory management, CRM, and market pricing tools.
• Valid Ontario Driver's Licence with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Appraise all trade-in vehicles and decide buy/sell path (retail/wholesale/auction).
• Source inventory via OpenLane, EBlock, auctions, and dealer-to-dealer purchases.
• Manage inventory levels with a maximum days supply target.
• Monitor aging reports and take action to optimize turns.
• Develop service-drive acquisition strategy to purchase vehicles from customers.
• Set and adjust retail pricing using live market data and tools.
• Coordinate with Service and Detail to ensure front-line readiness and cost control.
• Own monthly sales volume, front-end/back-end gross, and profitability vs budget.
• Recruit, coach, motivate, and manage the Used Vehicle Sales Team and set goals.
• Ensure online merchandising with photos, descriptions, and pricing across platforms.
• Maintain OMVIC compliance and Ontario disclosure requirements.
• Prepare and present performance reports to Executive Management.

Job description

At Peterborough Hyundai, we're looking for an experienced and driven Used Car Manager to lead our pre-owned vehicle department. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for maximizing inventory turn, profitability, team performance, and customer satisfaction while ensuring operational excellence across every aspect of the used vehicle operation.

Location: Chemong Rd, Peterborough ON (Hyundai)

Role and Responsibilities:

• Appraise all trade-in vehicles and make strategic buy/sell decisions on whether vehicles should be retailed, wholesaled, or sent to auction.
• Source quality inventory through wholesale channels including OpenLane, EBlock, dealer-to-dealer transactions, auctions, and private purchases.
• Manage inventory levels and maintain a maximum inventory days supply of days
• proactively monitor -, -, and -day aging reports.
• Develop and execute a service drive acquisition strategy to purchase vehicles directly from customers and maintain a consistent supply of desirable inventory.
• Set and continuously adjust retail pricing using live market data and pricing tools to remain competitive and maximize profitability.
• Coordinate with the Service and Detail Departments to ensure vehicles are front-line ready within a target turnaround of – days while controlling reconditioning costs.
• Take ownership of monthly sales volume, front-end gross, back-end gross, gross profit per unit, and total departmental profitability against budget.
• Recruit, coach, motivate, and manage the Used Vehicle Sales Team, including setting individual performance goals and conducting regular sales meetings.
• Ensure every used vehicle is accurately merchandised online with professional photos, compelling descriptions, and competitive pricing across the dealership website, AutoTrader, and other third-party marketplaces.
• Maintain full compliance with OMVIC regulations and Ontario disclosure requirements, including vehicle history disclosures and salesperson registration.
• Prepare and present regular performance reports to Executive Management on inventory aging, inventory turn, sales performance, profitability, and departmental KPIs.
