Job summary

Government of Manitoba’s Forestry and Peatlands Branch seeks an Urban Forestry Technician to oversee data collection, inventory, distribution, and field surveys across Manitoba. The role supports training, outreach, and program implementation with internal and external stakeholders.

The position emphasizes independent work, supervision of staff, and effective communication to ensure urban forestry initiatives advance in communities throughout the province.

Qualifications

  • Post secondary education in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Urban Forestry, or other environmental science discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience with urban forestry, tree planting and/or urban forestry programs and practices.
  • Experience collecting, reviewing, compiling and managing data.
  • Experience supervising staff including providing training, guidance and performance management.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
  • Experience driving a variety of vehicles, such as trucks, van, and/or all terrain vehicles, including towing trailers over a variety of terrain.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders and the public.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan, schedule and manage deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate tree inventory and distribution, data management for urban forestry programs and conducting field surveys, audits and inspections.
  • Deliver training and presentations to internal and external stakeholders, special interest groups, and the public.
