Job summary

Alberta Health Services seeks an accomplished Unit Manager to lead the Marshall Eliuk Peace River Community Health Centre. You will oversee Med/Surg, Obstetrics, ED, OR and MDR, ensuring efficient operations, staffing coordination, and high‑quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years of recent clinical experience in General Surgery/Medicine/Acute Care or Sub-Acute Care within ten years.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an exceptional Manager to lead operations at the Marshall Eliuk Peace River Community Health Centre in Peace River. The Care Manager will provide leadership for the Medical/Surgical and Obstetrics, Emergency, Operating Room (OR), and MDR departments. Description:

Reporting directly to the Site Manager, you will provide leadership coverage for the Marshall Eliuk Peace River Community Health Centre. As the Unit Manager, you will be the operational backbone of this facility, ensuring that every department runs smoothly and efficiently. You will oversee and support key clinical areas, including the Inpatient Medical-Surgical Unit, Obstetrics, Emergency Department, Operating Room, and the MDR department making sure resources are optimized so the site operates at its highest potential. Your responsibilities will go beyond day-to-day oversight—you’ll be the go-to leader for problem-solving and decision-making. You will work closely with Site Manager and other leaders to coordinate care, resolve issues quickly, and maintain seamless workflows. Acting as a trusted resource for frontline staff, you’ll accelerate patient care concerns when necessary and lead efforts to find effective solutions. In addition, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the future of the site by driving change management initiatives, promoting team development, and fostering collaboration across departments. From coordinating staffing and clinical workflows to ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, your leadership will directly impact patient outcomes and staff satisfaction. Required Qualifications:

Active registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) is required. The successful candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience, including experience in a leadership role within acute care, medical/surgical, Emergency, and/or Operating Room services within the last three (3) years. A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience within the last ten (10) years in areas such as General Surgery, General Medicine, Combined Medical/Surgical, Acute Care, or Sub-Acute Care is also required. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment, including management roles within health service operations. Proven ability to communicate effectively, supported by strong organizational and influential skills, a client-focused approach, and a commitment to delivering high-quality services. Exceptional leadership capabilities, including confidence in decision-making, coaching and mentoring, and the ability to inspire and instill confidence in others.


Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Knowledge of legislation and regulation related to healthcare. Knowledge of unionized work environments/union collective agreements.
