Shared Health in Winnipeg is seeking a casual Unit Clerk for the Renal Pre Transplant unit. You will greet patients, manage charts, transcribe orders, schedule tests, and support the multidisciplinary team.

This in-person role requires accuracy, strong English, typing 40 wpm, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment; prior hospital experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Unit Clerk training program required.
  • Medical terminology (75% pass mark) required.

Responsibilities

  • Receives patients to clinic/unit and ensures documentation is completed accurately.
  • Acts as communication link for the unit and handles calls and messages.
  • Obtains, assembles and maintains charts; transcribes physicians’ orders.
  • Schedules appointments/tests for patients and obtains test results.
  • Enters patient data into applicable information systems.
  • Maintains clinic/unit supplies and compiles statistics.

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager Health Services, or Nurse In-Charge and working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the incumbent receives patients to clinic/unit and ensures appropriate documentation is completed accurately. Acts as communication link for the unit, answering telephone calls, determining urgency, and forwarding calls or taking and relaying messages. Obtains, assembles and maintains charts. Transcribes physicians’ orders. Schedules appointments/tests for patients and obtains test results. Performs a variety of tasks for the care and comfort of patients. Prepares payroll information for the area. Maintains clinic/unit supplies, compiles statistical information and performs other miscellaneous duties as required. Enters patient data into applicable information systems. Follows all HSC policy and procedures and or specific clinic standard operating procedures.

Experience
  • Previous related work experience preferred.
  • Current hospital-based information systems/programs; scheduling systems/programs preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Unit Clerk training program required.
  • Medical terminology (75% pass mark) required.

  • Typing/keyboarding skills minimum 40 wpm required.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
